Most people are not aware that Arlington, Virginia is not a city. Arlington County, Virginia is a prosperous and progressive urban area located directly across the Potomac River from Washington DC. There are not any incorporated towns or cities within the Arlington County. Never fear, within Arlington County there are ”urban neighborhood villages” such as Crystal City, Pentagon City, Rosslyn, Virginia Square and Westover loaded with trendy restaurants, top-notch theater, nightlife, and some of the most important monuments and sites in the United States.

Arlington Cemetery is the top must-see in Arlington. Walking the shady paths among over 300,000 small gravestones evokes a deep reverence and appreciation for the sacrifices our military men and women have made for our freedom. Three unknown servicemen are buried at the Tomb of the Unknowns. It is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and in any weather by Tomb Guard sentinels, all volunteers, considered to be the most elite members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry. The John F. Kennedy Gravesite sits on a hillside at Arlington Cemetery yielding a panoramic view of the city. Nearby, The Pentagon, the world’s largest office building, is the center of U.S. military operations. Other prominent Arlington attractions include: the Iwo Jima Memorial Monument and Park, Theodore Roosevelt Island Park and the Arlington Historical Museum.

Light Up Rosslyn, World Music Festival, Taste of Arlington, and Arlington County Fair are just a few of the annual local events. Every month in Arlington there is something different to do. Arlington is filled with surprises and special moments. And…there’s still the world of Washington DC waiting just across the river.

Arlington has been winning a lot of these random honors lately. I guess people are finding lots of reasons why it is a great place to live and work.
